Since his stay in India in 1965 with The Beatles, Harrison also had a special interest in Hindu culture and religion through the Hare Krishna movement and introduced his fellow Beatles to Eastern philosophy through the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who was instrumental in the group's musical evolution since the recording of The White Album. His interest in Hindu culture would formally expand when he embraced Hinduism. On a pilgrimage with his wife Pattie to India between The Beatles' last tour in 1966 and the start of the recordings of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Harrison took sitar lessons, met several gurus and visited sacred sites, thus becoming more familiar with Eastern culture. Until his death in 2001, George Harrison never forgot this part of his life and always included, to a greater or lesser extent, philosophical and spiritual themes in all his albums, showing the world his thoughts and his way of seeing life from a personal and spiritual point of view. After Harrison's death, his family issued the following statement: "He left this world as he lived: conscious of God, unafraid of death and at peace, surrounded by family and friends." Harrison would sometimes say: "Everything else can wait, but the search for God cannot; love one another." In 2002, as a tribute after his death, The Beatles published a double album that collected 27 spiritual songs by Harrison, from "Love you to" published in 1966, to "Any road" in 2002, the album covers 35 years of music where Harrison tries to show his way of walking spiritually in life.
