Christians are saved by faith in what Christ has done for us, and we live by faith in what Christ has yet to do, this is our hope. In the meantime, we live in a world that is hostile to Christ as sojourners. The Apostle Peter wants us to understand that this meantime has purpose (1:17, 2:2, 2:12). In His High Priestly prayer, Jesus refused to ask His Father to spare us from it, instead, He prayed that we would be kept from the evil one (Jn. 17:15). The meantime between our adoption and glorification is a time of testing the genuineness of our faith through which our Saviour is glorified (1 Pt. 1:7). Peter tells us how to thrive in the meantime.
