Bill Murray and Wes Anderson discuss ‘The Phoenician Scheme’
Bill Murray and Wes Anderson discuss ‘The Phoenician Scheme’
Episodio en Lost Notes
Filmmaker Wes Anderson often works with the same actors from project to project, but there is one person he has collaborated with more than any other — the inimitable Bill Murray. These collabs include 1998’s Rushmore, 2004’s The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and now The Phoenician Scheme, which premiered last month at the Cannes Film Festival. Anderson and Murray spoke with Elvis Mitchell in the Elvis Suite at Cannes. Anderson recalled his first conversation with Murray around making Rushmore. Murray, meanwhile, noted that he doesn’t feel boxed in by Anderson’s exacting directorial style and that Anderson’s scripts only begin to tell the story of the film that will be made.

Tyler James Williams on ‘Abbott Elementary’ and showcasing multi-faceted Black lives
Episodio en Lost Notes
Actor Tyler James Williams seamlessly transitioned from working as a child to working as an adult. During his formative years, he starred as semi-fictionalized young Chris Rock in the sitcom Everybody Hates Chris. As he grew up, he added more noteworthy credits — including Dear White People and The United States vs. Billie Holiday. He’s currently in the ensemble of the critically acclaimed, Emmy-winning sitcom Abbott Elementary. Williams’ portrayal of teacher Gregory Eddie in the series has earned him three Emmy nominations in a row for Outstanding ing Actor in a Comedy Series. And now he’s making another transition with ease — actor to director — having directed an episode of Abbott last season. Williams tells The Treatment about loving to let a moment breathe as a director, learning about comedy from an early appearance on Saturday Night Live with Jack Black, and why he wants to keep representing Black life more holistically than much of what he saw when he was growing up.

How ‘The 2000 Year Old Man’ shaped comedian Carol Leifer's career
How ‘The 2000 Year Old Man’ shaped comedian Carol Leifer's career
Episodio en Lost Notes
For decades, trailblazing comedian and Emmy-winner Carol Leifer has entertained audiences with her sharp wit and comedic talents — both on stage and behind the scenes. A seasoned stand-up comic, she has also lent her writing brilliance to iconic, fan-favorite shows like Seinfeld, Modern Family, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Hacks. Leifer’s latest project finds her expanding her creative repertoire as an author. Teaming with fellow comedy writer Rick Mitchell, she co-authored the hilarious and practical book How to Write a Funny Speech...for a Wedding, Bar Mitzvah, Graduation & Every Other Event You Didn't Want to Go to in the First Place. More: Comedian Carol Leifer wants you to shine in your next speech (The Treatment, 2025) For her Treat, Leifer credits Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks' classic sketch-turned-comedy album The 2000 Year Old Man as a major influence on her life and career. It was a staple in her household growing up, igniting her ion for comedy and fueling her ambition to bring joy through laughter. More: Carol Leifer (The Treatment, 2001) This segment has been edited and condensed for clarity. I have to say, what had the most impact on me was Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks' comedy album, The 2000 Year Old Man. Growing up in my generation, what your parents listened to was what everybody listened to. There was one phonograph and the family was the captive audience. My parents were both big comedy lovers, and they played this The 2000 Year Old Man album all the time, so much that I could lip-sync it at this point. There was so much laughter growing up in my house. And not only laughter, but it really made me want to be funny. Making people laugh like those two with that album did in my house was such an impetus for me to really seek out the joy of laughing and making other people laugh. To the point [that] when I went to college at SUNY Binghamton - Harpur College, and I met Paul Weiser, we both knew that album and knew it word by word. It's not only an influence on me but other people of my generation. So when I think of that album, I think about my family and me wanting to go into comedy.

Seth Meyers on finding comedic relief amid political chaos
Seth Meyers on finding comedic relief amid political chaos
Episodio en Lost Notes
As the Trump istration ups the pressure on media companies, Late Night host Seth Meyers says he and his bosses at NBC have no plans to back off the political satire (as far as he knows). “I only see one path forward for our show, which is keep doing what we're doing,” Meyers notes. “I would certainly be pessimistic about how happy I would be if we did whatever version of the show the current istration would be happy with, or the one that they would stop complaining about.” Meyers s Masters to demonstrate why the nickname Trump gave him — Marble Mouth Meyers — doesn’t really land. He also talks about how his years at Saturday Night Live both shaped and traumatized him and how fatherhood provided plenty of material for his standup specials: Lobby Baby and Dad Man Walking.

WBD investors scrutinize Zaslav’s paycheck; Disney does more layoffs
WBD investors scrutinize Zaslav’s paycheck; Disney does more layoffs
Episodio en Lost Notes
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav is facing heat from investors as 60% of shareholders vote against his $52 million pay package for 2024. What prompted the rare public backlash? Plus, what’s behind Disney’s latest wave of layoffs ? Kim Masters and Matt Belloni are on it. Money talks? A recent WBD shareholders vote sends a clear message of frustration as the company’s stock slides and layoffs ripple through the studio. “Shareholders have lost about 60% of the value of the company since it went public and debuted about three years ago,” says Belloni. “So David Zaslav continues to enrich himself while the shareholders of the company, ostensibly his boss[es], are not benefiting from this.” Let it go? Disney announced another round of layoffs this week, a move which affects hundreds of employees across its film, TV, marketing, publicity, and corporate operations. The layoffs come amidst a company-wide reduction in content and restructuring of its entertainment business model. “This is the latest move to bring down the workforce in response to making less content,” explains Belloni. “Bob Iger has been very clear that Disney is not making as much film and television programming as they did during the pandemic and they feel that the company should reflect that reduced output.” Stream(ing)-liner? Disney is looking to restructure its employees across cable and streaming, with the possibility of Hulu and other company assets living together under one roof. “They need all those people,” Belloni notes. “Slowly but surely, they are consolidating these people for the future where there will eventually be one Disney streaming brand, Disney+ with hubs underneath it, and a linear television business that will either be spun off, or will be slowly atrophied into nothing.”
