Radio Upatyaka is established under the three decade social organisation Narayan Pariwar Club situated at Teku, Kathmandu. It is the first community radio in Kathmandu of its kind as it is owned and run by non-government non-profit organisation NPC. The radio has been actively producing programs in the fields of education,health, entertainment, culture, technology, environment, linguistics, handicaps, women and children programs related to the work field of its parent organisation.

Nowadays, it is broadcasting news, entertainment, commercial and features programs for 17 hours, out of 24 hours daily. The radio transmitter of five hundred watt has an access to almost parts of the eastern Sunsari along with the coverage areas for Bhojpur, Dhankuta, Illam, Udyapur& other nearest surrounding areas with millions of listeners. The principal objective of the radio is to build well informed and conscious society through correct information to disseminate and share unbiased community voices.
